What Makes Demi Moore so Special

June 24th, 2008

Brains, beauty, sex-appeal and brilliantly shiny hair are only a few words that can describe the celebrated star Demi Moore (born Demetri Guynes). Her exotic beauty is considered to be ’caused’ by her French, Welsh and Native American heritage. Even if the seductive Scorpion actress (born on November 11, 1962 in New Mexico) is causing big waves of scandal by shaving her head nearly bald for her part in the GI Jane movie, or kicking Charlie Angel’s butt while her shimmery coal black tresses were falling down to her waist, Demi Moore is famous for her unique hair, but also for her men.

Her famous trade mark, her hair was heavily copied when she surprised the audience by appearing with a very short, boyish crop in the popular ‘Ghost’ movie in 1990. Demi Moore went through a range of radically different hairstyles for accomplishing the requirements for her following movies, eventually completely shocking the fans by actually shaving her head in a visually striking scene in ‘G.I.Jane’ in 1997.

In spite of Demi’s change of look for the ‘G.I.Jane’ movie, her movie failed at the box office and mostly garnered poor reviews. ‘G.I Jane’ was not a singular case, ‘The Scarlett Letter’, ‘The Juror’ and ‘Striptease’ had the same sad faith. Although Demi Moore was the highest paid actress in Hollywood and the first actress to reach the 10 million USD level for salary, and although she was completing a string of box office hits as ‘Ghost’, ‘A Few Good Men’ and ‘Indecent Proposal’, Demi Moore has been constantly given negative attention, being eventually spoofed with a cartoon version (called ‘Dewmi Moore’) in the popular video game ‘Leisure Suit Larry’.

After these series of bad review she disappeared to her ranch in Idaho to completely dedicate herself to the education of her three daughters. Demi Moore broke away from her privacy in 2000 to act in ‘Passion of Mind’ movie, but she carried on her discreet life style and she didn’t seek the bright lights of Hollywood.

Demi Moore orchestrated an amazing come-back by appearing in another spectacular hairstyle for the ‘Charlie’s Angels’ sequel in 2002-2003. The low profile Demi Moore emerged with a waist long hair, with a super healthy shine.

It is like this incredible woman retreated to the remote Idaho with minimal soldier hair in order to later amaze the world with the gorgeous tresses you would normally expect from a person living a healthy, private life in the beautiful wilds of Idaho.

The Console War - Three Decades and Counting

June 13th, 2008

With the recent release of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and the upcoming releases of Sony’s PS3 and Nintendo’s Wii, gamers a like are becoming more aware of the fierce competition and tactics used by these three major players of the video gaming industry.

It all began in 1972 with a unit you may remember - Magnavox Odyssey. While Magnavox’s efforts were short lived, they are still remembered to play a heavy role in the establishment of the home-based video game console. Of course Atari was next in line with a new and back then ‘evolutionary’ game - PONG. As simplistic as the game was, it was loved by consumers worldwide and helped launch Atari’s name into the ‘big books’.

The newly created gaming industry was gaining strength and the general consumers interest. However as 10 years passed the video gaming industry was about to crash. In 1983, consumers criticized the lack of quality console games with the emergence of home-based computers, gamers began to lose faith in the console. Breaking the silence in late 1983, Nintendo introduced the Famicon (Nintendo Entertainment System). With the release of the Famicon came the birth of Super Mario Bros. a signatory series to the Nintendo brand.

Nintendo’s dominance was challenged by Sega who entered the market with their Master System. Despite Sega’s efforts, their Master System barely captured any market share and made little profit. The company refused to face defeat and soon there after released the Mega Drive/ Genisis in 1988, two years before Nintendo’s release of the Super Nintendo (SNES).

Moving along, the video gaming world became divided into the 32-bit vs. 64-bit machines. The first wave of systems that entered the market was the 3DO and Atari’s Jaguar. While both systems were powerful for their time, neither was able to outperform Sega or Nintendo who both dominated the market until 1994. On December 3 1994, Sony launched its Playstation system and enjoyed a successful launch. Nintendo followed 2 years later with their 64-bit offering, the Nintendo 64. Even at this stage Nintendo made the controversial decision of releasing a cartridge based system arguing that it would reduce load times and minimize piracy.

Sega fought back one last time in 1998, releasing the Dreamcast. While Sega’s efforts were strong, the company failed to make ends meet when Sony released the successor to their first console - the PS2 (in 2000). In 2001 Nintendo released it’s Gamecube targeting a younger market. Both companies had established their own brands and proved themselves to the gaming community. Sony’s system was challenged in 2001 when Microsoft entered the arena with their Xbox.

We are currently in a new generation of console gaming. While Xbox 360 is currently available the ps3 and Wii are due to release later this year. Previously, Sony dominated in market share, however this is forecast to change with the new generation of gaming. More than ever it is critical to offer the greatest innovation, greatest power and most of all the greatest games.

So who will dominate the market this generation? This is difficult to answer, however as a gaming enthusiast, I strongly believe that competition between the three companies ultimately means better games for you - the gamer.

PS3 And Nintendo Revolution May Launch American Thanksgiving

March 31st, 2008

Could the Nintendo Revolution and the PS3 launch the same time? It’s beginning to look more and more likely. Both Nintendo and Sony have been less than forthcoming with any real concrete information. Rumors have set release dates anywhere from March to sometime next year. However, the latest rumors have both consoles to launch around American Thanksgiving.

Nintendo is planning on releasing their “revolutionary” new system this fall, near Thanksgiving to be precise. This release date is drawn from new quotes from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata who stated, “We can’t disclose the Revolution’s release period yet, but we have no plans to miss out on the year-end sales battle. As for North America, we need to release it by Thanksgiving, or otherwise we won’t receive support from the retail industry. So the Revolution will be released prior to that period.”

In regards to the issue of when the Sony PS3 will launch, Forbes Magazine said: “Sony’s last word on this remains spring 2006, but almost nobody believes it at least not for the North American launch because of a history of delays for previous products. Thanksgiving looks to be a better bet, at least to Evan Wilson, an analyst with Pacific Crest Securities.”

Could we see both the Nintendo Revolution and the PS3 this thanksgiving? What kind of marketing strategy would this be? Microsoft was fortunate to launch their Xbox 360 with absolutely no competition. The head-start allowed the 360 to gain ground on the competition; however because of massive shortages, only 600,000 consoles have been sold so far.

If both the Nintendo Revolution and the PS3 launch this thanksgiving they will not have the same luxury. Instead, all 3 consoles will have to split the market share.

By June of this year, Microsoft hope to sell 4.5 to 5 million Xbox 360’s worldwide. That means both Nintendo and Sony will have a lot of catching up to do. It would seem to delay the launch of either console to 2007 would be a marketing nightmare, no matter how impressive the Revolution controller is, or how powerful the PS3 might be. Peter Moore of Microsoft has recently said that they “will pull Halo 3 when the time is right,” which many believe will happen alongside the PS3 launch.

It seems unlikely that both consoles will launch the same time. Perhaps the Revolution will see a mid to late September launch while the PS3 takes the November slot (or even later).

It is this author’s opinion that both consoles will hit the shelves 2006. Though the question remains, when?
